Offering a feature rich phone has never been of so much importance. In the 1990s a contract and therefore the SIM card were of the utmost importance – the phones offered were all very similar in both design and functionality. Nokia, Motorola, Ericsson and Samsung phones all did the same thing – other than telephony capabilities the phone may have a stopwatch and a calendar making them very hard to distinguish. The phone would likely be the same or do the same regardless of the operator; it was more important to choose the correct operator that offered the tariff that was most compatible with you.

Today the phone is often what determines the operator a consumer or business chooses. Phones have undergone vast changes, not in their fundamental designs – the OS has remained largely unchanged, but their have been many technological advances and improvements made. Today mobile phones are often termed mobile devices offering a plethora of functions; the ability to take high res stills, 30 fps video capture, multiple gigabytes of memory, ever quicker processors, mp3 players, transferring of files, true web browsing capabilities and more.

Link Telecom, the fast-growing independent West Yorkshire communications group, staged an open day to showcase the new heaquarters of its fixed line division at Moderna Business Park, Mytholmroyd.

The division is handling all Link Telecom’s fixed line telephone systems, network services and installations work. Major growth in business activity prompted the move to the purpose-built premises. Also responsible for UK-wide fixed line business, the operation employs a 16-strong team, with new jobs in the pipeline as the division develops its remit.

Link Telecom’s ICT director Steve Tomlinson said: “Our fixed line business is experiencing rapid growth, notably among SMEs across the region, and the new premises will allow us to underpin current and future expansion potential.

“We are now well placed to meet across-the-board voice and IT systems needs of existing and new customers in line with the group’s blueprint for future development and diversification across all key market sectors.”

Open day tours of the premises were supplemented by demonstrations of the latest state-of-the-art fixed line telephone systems and networks, along with productivity-boosting and business support applications, by Link Telecom’s partners Samsung, Inter-Tel, New Media Software and Ben Johnson Office Solutions.
