MOBILE PHONES AND THE WORLD WIDE WEB » 20/11/08

It has been a long time coming and was once considered to be a thing of science fiction and and spy thrillers. The ability to gain access to vast amounts of information and data via a handheld device, this alongside the capability to receive, edit or manipulate then resend originated data is here.

Modern business has it’s future in mobility, with the number of handsets about to hit 4 billion globally, mobile web is about accessing that vast network. Mobile phones are location aware, with GPRS technology and can offer amazing insight into our behavour and activity. A service which is market specific will lead to demand and develop channels for revenue. This pheominum seems to be slow to reach the consumer, at a business level the revolution is well underway.

WE ARE MOVING » 12/06/09

West Yorkshire telecommunications group Link Telecom has announced that it is to relocate from its head office premises in Airedale Buildings, North Street, Keighley, at the end of this month to a new site at The Waterfront in Old Mill Road, Saltaire.

The move is in direct response to expansion requirements and the 5,500 sq ft premises, double the size of the current building, will act as both the new group head office and headquarters of the northern cellular division. All Keighley staff will relocate to Saltaire and Link Telecom is confident new jobs will be created as the group continues to expand.

The move follows Link Telecom’s planned withdrawal from the consumer sector after closing its last two remaining retail outlets at Odsal Top, Bradford, which traded as Angel Telecom, and Bull Green, Halifax.

Link Telecom chief executive Gary Fawcett said the closures in April concluded the strategic restructuring of the business.

He said: “The closure of our Bradford and Halifax consumer businesses marks the completion of Link Telecom’s extraction from the retail arena. The group is now firmly focused on national business-to-business activity and has experienced phenomenal growth over the past three years, despite the planned exit from the consumer sector.”

Link Telecom also retains a presence in Calderdale through its UK fixed line division headquarters at Moderna Business Park, Mytholmroyd. The group’s southern cellular division is based in Camberley, Surrey.

Gary said: “We now have three main centres covering the UK and are ideally positioned to concentrate all of our efforts on national business-to-business growth.”

Commercial director Matthew Wright added: “While we have long outgrown our Keighley premises, first occupied in 1999, we are committed to staying in the local area and further strengthen our stronghold across our West Yorkshire trading heartlands, as well as developing our national footprint

“Companies and organisations like ours must look to do business locally wherever possible to keep money circulating in the local economy and help underpin our economic stability.

“Our new head office premises in Saltaire contain a state-of-the-art meeting and conference facility, sponsored by Blackberry, which we are keen to share with other local companies.”

Link Telecom recently announced robust underlying growth in turnover and gross profit for 2008, both showing a near 15% increase on 2007. The independent telecommunications group, which now employs, either directly or indirectly, over 100 people is on target to deliver record revenues this calendar year.
